Sony HD camcorder - A bit annoyed

Hi

I just got a second hand HD camcorder - hdr-sr1. I recorded a bunch of events recently in the best quality it can do and everything plays wonderfully when I use HDMI to my tv, however I have no way of editing it.

It came with no software and sony want £60 for a replacement cd, and I have tried various trials of some software, but have not had much luck.

Whilst using sony vegas, the quality goes extremly grainy... adobe premier does not understand it, and I am just out of luck.

Basically, I used to record a few 20 min recordings on my old camera - sony P200 and loved it, just copied over to the pc and opened in windows movie maker when I needed something very quick or after effects / premier when I had a big project.

On this new camera, nothing understands what I recorded.

I see the option to record in standard definition, and I am wondering if I should of just bought a cheaper camera if I have to do everything in this mode.

Can anyone recommend anything for me?

All I want to do is to be able to convert the video down to a reasonable quality and send it to friend. I am just very annoyed as the video from my old P200 played much better than anything from this camcorder after I convert it.

Thanks

You should be able to get quality output using Vegas. What format/settings are you using for rendering?

I agree with Mark Sony Vegas should get you there, Nero does in fact not degrade video..that part is user dependent

If you can in the meantime, get hold of Nero Vision 5 ( part of Nero8) . It works
Adobe Premiere Elements is not AVCHD friendly TBH

Oh forget Sonys PMB , certainly if you can get it without paying Sony , fine, but I wonder why they feel they must charge folk to use software specific to ther own hardware which was free..

Are you talking about the finished artical or what you see in Vegas?
By default Vegas uses a low res preview. Output should be fine as long as you set it to a high quality output

Re: Sony HD camcorder - A bit annoyed

I just can not get my head around vegas.

I just dragged my movie on to the time line then clicked file > render as... I did not really like the quality as my old camera could record higher quality video.

Is there a guide on how to just do a very quick edit using vegas?
