Ive come across this camcorder, need your advice!

Hi Guys.

I have come across this on my travels;

http://www.tomtop.com/product_1268.html

and i want to know you opinions on it. I appreciate that it will not be anywhere near as good than the High definition options you can get from Sony and Panasonic etc, but will it be OK for a fortnight in the US?

For the price i can get this at, i could buy a midrange SD camcorder, so i thought if this was OK i waould get this one instead.

I dont know that much about camcorders so your help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ben

Re: Ive come across this camcorder, need your advice!

I can't tell you anything about it other than its the same model thats been rebranded as the "Petacon Praktica DVC 5.1 HD"

If you search on this you may get a bit more info

http://www.dcviews.com/press/Praktica-DVC-5.1.htm

Its Chinese in origin and looks a bit like a design rip off from the Panasonic SD9.

I can't see it being brilliant.

I'd say "you get what you pay for"

I agree with Solidstate and wouldn't expect too much in the way of performance, there's a lot more than just the HD and shiny stickers that they put on these cams, I.E lens quality, electronics and firmware quality never mind the build quality.

Yeah, thats waht i guessed, i didnt know if anyone might know what sort of lense quality to expect from the small description given.

I dont want this to become one of those 'what camera can i get for under £200' threads, but i guess it is.

Are we saying this isnt or maybe shoudnt be a good buy? (although were not sure)

Are you likely to be a ble to buy a SD camcorder producing a better picture than this for the same price mark?

Cheers guys

Ben

It may be a good buy if it suits your budget, but until someone reviews the cam, we'll never know how good it is, it may be an excellent performer but at the price I have my doubts.

Again until we have independant reviews then that judgement can't be made,You can get some very good SD cams.
If you buy one and it's no good, there's always E/Bay
