DV Format AVI handling is useless

Hello

I have been trying to play back some AVIs on the PC and they are very stuttery and the sound is as bad.

I tried Ulead Video Studio 9 and that suffers the same way while using DV format AVIs.

Does anyone have any ideas why DV format AVI playback is useless?

MPEG2 and MPEG4 are fine

Re: DV Format AVI handling is useless

That's a very old version of Ulead Video Studio. It's up to version 11.5 Plus now, which will do pretty well everything - including all HD formats. That should work fine for you, I reckon, if your PC is up to it.

Re: DV Format AVI handling is useless

Well it was fine about two months or so ago and the only changes are extra RAM and cleaning out a failed anti virus deinstall.

As to Ulead 11.x my PC has a P4 2.4 with 1GB of RAM

Re: DV Format AVI handling is useless

If it is raw DV it is uncompressed and you should have any problem with it at all, that is unless your hard drive is to slow for the amount of data it is on.....You really need to have a 5400rpm or ideally higher.....

It is the normal 5x compressed DV rather than raw, same as found on DV cameras.

Uses quartz.dll and qdv.dll it seems

It did help - I thought that D: was fast - it was but the IDE speed had dropped, C: was still DMA 5
