Direct dvd transfering

I have a programme on my pc called Powerproducer Gold2. one of the utilities says you can transfer dv content direct from a device straight to Dvd without use of encoding etc, i did not know this was possible without first converting the video, this would be much easier for me as i am having trouble with all my conversion programmes. if it is ok can anyone give me any tips for sucessful transfering, Should i buy fairly good quality dvd+r's and should i only use 1xspeed to minimise errors. Thanks in advance.

Personally I would say what conversion programmes you are having problems with and what the probs are to try and resolve that first.

It isnt
The format ( DV AVI) can only go on a DVD disc as data.A disc resulting from this sort of transfer will not be a DVD video and not playable on a settop, or even on a software player on a PC without using its file player mode.]DVD video discs have mpeg2 not DV AVI, and even if you just burn mpeg2 files to discs this does not make then DVD video without being "authored"

.
If only life was so simple.. Which conversion programs are you using and which trouble ar you having.. If you have problems will all it may be what you are doing, or how you are doing it , unless the PC itself is not properly set up

I think software is a key issue here.. what have you used.. ? good quality DVDs is a good idea, Im not so sure about 1x speed being the solution

its interesting how dvd recorders will record dvds from any source i suppose they have their own encoders.

You can make DVDs from any video source on the PC too provided the system has the right decoders and encoders. We do ask a lot from PCs throwing all sorts of video file types at them
Settop DVD recorders have a relatively easy time though, they accept ( limited inputs) :analogue video ( composite, RGB or s-video) or firewire from a DV camcorder
Thier hardware encoders obviously work in real time, not unlike any no of analogue to digital boxes which connect to the PC by USB

Yes i have just managed to put my camcorder dv content straight onto disc using this method with what seems good results the disc plays back ok. There was a few seconds delay from when i pressed play on the camcorder to when the pc started the transfer i suppose this was the time it needed to do the bit of encoding required.
