canon HV30 advise - please!

I am thinking of buying the canon HV30.
I want to know if it can do the following and would like to know from people with knowledge if the HV30 can:

1) export & downconvert to standard DV via firewire on the fly for non linear capture
2) play HDV tapes from a canon XH A1 (or other HDV cameras)
3) output standard DV via firewire
4) play standard DV filmed using other cameras.

I don't want to buy & find it cannot do it as the above are important to me for a good consumer HDV camera so hoping that someone can tell me it's ok!

YES

Unsure as I don't have one, but would imagine it would

3) output standard DV via firewire
YES

4) play standard DV filmed using other cameras.

YES, it does from my Sony, unsure about other makes, and as long as it's recorderd in SP mode

Re: canon HV30 advise - please!

For 2) and 4), HDV is standard (as is DV), so no issue playing tapes from other cams.

It even supports LP mode in DV... though LP may not always work when a tape is recorded on one camcorder and played on another (this isn't specific to the HV30, it's a general issue with DV and LP).

Some say it's good others can be dissapointed, low light is always a problem for any cam.
IMO the lowlight quality is very good if you know how to use the cameras manual functions.
I suggest you look here

Lots of information regarding the HV20/30

Re: canon HV30 advise - please!

If you're still thinking of the HV30 then I can recommend buying from here. There's currently a 30% discount on 'In Stock' items (enter code 123 at stage 5 of checkout process), of which the HV30 is one.

I ordered mine yesterday lunchtime with Special Delivery before 1300 for £459. It arrived at 0740 and is currently on charge.

I'm off out soon to buy a tape. I can't believe they don't include a tape!
