Skylight Filter yes / no ?

My old TRV-20 had a 37mm lens diameter which is the same as my new SR11.

I thought it would be added protection for the lens and lens shuttering mechanism.

I never one had to clean the lens on my TRV-20 in over six years.

What are the general thoughts ? Will it intefere with the focusing ? Will it degrade picture quality ?

Re: Skylight Filter yes / no ?

I have never owned a camera or camcorder without putting either a Skylight or UV filter on it - just to protect the lens rather than anything else.
At the end of the day I always look at it from the point of view that a new filter is only a few quid, but a new lens in real terms means a new camcorder!

Mark.

Re: Skylight Filter yes / no ?

Thanks Mark. I must admit I've never had a problem on the MiniDV cam but remember reading recently that it would cause a HD cam image to be fuzzy.

Cant remember where I read it.

Re: Skylight Filter yes / no ?

I put a B&W MC UV filter on my HC1 for general protection , its a few quid more at about £18 but it gives me piece of mind.
