Advice for a newbie

Hi all, this is my first post in this area of the forums because as the title suggests I'm new to the world of videocameras. Obviously because of this I want a cam that will be reasonably simple to use and not overloaded with features i'll never use. However with this in mind i would still like the cam to be the best I can get for around the £500-£800 mark.

From my browsing so far I've looked at the sony sr11 and sr12 and all the reviews and comments seem to be very favourable.

Basically I'd like the cam to be Hi def, have good colour portrayal and be good in night conditions. (Parents want to use it at night in Disneyworld lol)

Thanks for any advice

Re: Advice for a newbie

SR11/SR12 (from reviews and clips I've seen) do look good. All consumer camcorders are easy to use. As you probably know it is an AVCHD HDD model.
There is also the Canon HG10.

As an alternate there are AVCHD models which use flash memory cards (Panasonic SD9, new Canon HF10/HF100, Sony CX6).

And there is HDV (tape), Canon HV20/HV30, Sony HC5/HC9.

All of these are good, there are pros/cons to each.
