Before I purchase this I just wanted to double check... I am presuming they are the same model.

On the sony website it is showing as a SR55E and if you do a search for SR55 nothing comes up.

However, if you do a Google search for both model numbers you get different online retailers coming up for both and different prices.

As with all Sony models, the "PAL" ones sold in Europe have the "E" suffix, but not all retailers use the full name. Any SR55 you buy in the UK should be the 55E.
In the case of the SR55, I think the SR55E may be the only model anyway; e.g. there is no SR55 in the USA.
So in short, the answer is yes they are the same.
