Vista doesn't see my Sony DCR-HC47

It shouldn't be this hard. I'm trying to copying footage from my DV camera to my laptop. I've tried with a firewire cable, USB and then bough a Sony Ilink cable.

Either I'm very stupid (which is possible) or this is much more complicated then it should be. So I turn on the camera switch it to play/edit mode, I then launch the Import from Handycam
and then nothing, the Import button remains greyed out.

With Windows Movie Maker I select From digital video camera and nothing.

The closest I got was with a USB, select USB stream and my laptop said it installed a driver but then nothing again. I'm desperate to get this footage I don't want to resort to playing it on the tv and then burning it to a dvd.

My camera is a Sony DCR-HC47, my o/s is Windows Vista regualr personal edition. any help much appreciated.

Re: Vista doesn't see my Sony DCR-HC47

Have you got the Picture Package software (that's what i think it is called.)
If you do have it then make sure it is up to date to the latest version.

Try searching on this forum or Googling it if that doesn't work.

Hope that helps.
