HV30 - Microphone and Editing sofware help please

Hey guys,

Firstly a massive thank you to everyone who helped me pick the hv30.

I now have a couple of questions;

Firstly, are there any cheap, yet effective stereo microphones out there that are compatable and around 80 quid mark?

Secondly I don't think the cd I had with the camorder is for video and I would like a great editing software that will capture and edit all footage?

Ideally the editing software will be simple as this is my first ever camcorder, I mainly want the software for fading and titles but in future would like to do more complicated editing. price also not over 60 quid please.

Many thanks and apologies if this has been asked before, done a search but could not find all I was after.

Dan

For Mics, the Rode Videomic is good, but it is £120.

For editing - I like Sony Vegas (the Movie Studio Platimum edition is under £60), though with any powerful editor, there is a learning curve.

Thanks Mark,
Sony vegas was what I was looking at but I also see Pinnacle 11, I'm guessing Vegas is the better to use.

Also for the mic, is the Rode much better than the Canon DM-50 and would I need to buy any more accessories?

Thanks again.

For Vegas vs. Pinnacle - Senu has used both and has provided comparisons in the past. I think Pinnacle may seem a bit easier to use for a beginner. It used to have stability problems but it's better now. I've not used Pinnacle myself.

I don't know the Canon mic; only that the Rode is excellent.

You don't need any other accessories to use the Rode mic, though it seems there is an issue with the HV30 (which isn't the case with the HV20) where the shoe cover gets in the way of mounting it on the camera, see here

Thanks Mark,

I will purchase the Rode mic and just cut off that strap if it is too much of a pain.

Also think i'll buy Vegas, i'm sure I could learn how to use it effectively and have heard more about this than I have Pinnacle.

Thanks again

Thanks again Mark the mic came through, sounds great, looks massive but all i'm worried about is the quality of the picture/sound it produces.

Still waiting for vegas, all I need now is a cheap tripod and maybe a hood and i'm complete. whoo hoo
