Panasonic GS90

Hi everyone,

I am just about to buy a new Panasonic GS90 and need reassurance that it's not gonna be a 'pup'

It's only for 'point and shoot', typical family usage and it needs to have DV out to connect to the PC/DVD recorder and be nice and compact to fit into the wife's bag (it's a present for her). We've never had the need to plug in a mic or any additional form of lighting either.

I've thought hard about Highdef and harddrive but have read that I need to be spending £500+ to get any form of decent results (a budget that is not available)

I can get this camera for about £175 but will also need to spend some extra for an additional battery as well.

Is there any other comparable camera that I should be considering (a budget really of £200-£250 tops) or I have misread about the highdef and/or harddrive quality at the low end budget (being a gadget person I'd love highdef/harddrive but took a reality check this time).

Thoughts please.

This is a new model, I've not seen it in action nor any reviews. I agree with you that in your budget miniDV is best value; the specs on this camcorder look pretty good - your standard 1/6" CCD, but has OIS which is unusual in a budget model. Whether it is better than say the Canon MD101 or MD160 is hard to say, but I don't think it will be a "pup".

Just bought this camera from Argos, 1st Camcorder! More of a photo man then movie dude. Looks good, nice and compact. Need to buy some Sony tapes of Amazon, can't seem to find any cheap batteries for this, in the manual it states under optional batteries VW-VBG... think this is a new series of batteries and they are really expensive!

I'd be very interested in reading your thoughts on the camera once you used it for a bit. I've been hanging back from buying it until I have read some reviews/opinions on it.

I've made this site a regular (work) lunchtime read in the hope that I may get some extra info on the GS90.

Re: Panasonic GS90

Just ordered some tapes they should be arriving tomorrow, and Saturday I will be using it at the wedding, will take some normal vids to so you can see the quality of it, will upload these when the firewire cards to.

Its easy to use, the zoom is a nice touch 42x optical with hand ois this reduces the shaking.

Will post up some more opinions over the weekend mate

Hi nikz06,

I am seriously considering the purchase of this camera. Do you have any news and views now that you've used it for a few days?

Thanks!
