Panasonic NV-DS11 Error code

Hi,
I have a second-hand Panasonic NV-DS11 which intermittently fails to work. It seems to record the image in stripes across the screen, one still and one moving in alternate stripes, and sometimes i see an error code U11 with a red symbol.

I have no manual for the camera and wondered if anyone can tell me what this error code is and how/if it can be fixed?

Hi. I bought one of these last week.

No mention of the error code as such in the manual, but it sounds like your heads need cleaning. You can get Sony branded MiniDV head cleaning cassettes on Ebay for £0.01 plus £4 postage and packing, or around £15 from Jessops.

Hey thanks Martin,
strangely the online english manual only goes up to page 75, therefore missing the crucial 'Indications on the lcd monitor/in the viewfinder' and 'Problems and solutions' section...

I think you may be right about the head cleaning, when I do this it only recognises the cleaner tape in VCR mode though, is there a record head cleaner?

OK. I have the NV-DS11EG. The original manual which came with it refers to the NV-DS11B. I don't think therefore that there is any difference between the models. You've downloaded the one for the B model, which is in 15-page chunks, yes? There is another one at the bottom of the page for the EG model, in English and Italian, which appears to be complete.

No. You simply run the cleaning cassette in VCR mode for 20 seconds, and it cleans both playback and record heads.
