AVCHD video editing, Laptop suggestions?

Hi guys
Don't know if I'm posting this in the right area but I'm quite new to AVForums. I plan to upgrade my laptop, I have a Canon HG10 HD camcorder and I plan to edit AVCHD footage, burn HD media etc.
Can anyone suggest an off the shelf laptop with enough processing power and a robust enough graphics card to deal with this. I don't know whether to go for HD-DVD or blu-ray, I'm far for being an expert on these things. Any other spec suggestions would be appreciated.

I was looking at spending less than £1000.

Any help is appreciated.

Depends on how much money you want to spend and what you will use the Laptop for otherwise. E.g. is weight important, do you want to be able to read the LCD in bright sunlight etc.

For your budget there is not much on the market with a Blu Ray (Forget about HD DVD that format is finished) drive build in. A very well priced laptop is the Sony FZ21M. it is available from approximately 850 Euro/ £600 (e.g. laptopsdirect.ie or .laptopsdirectco.uk or Dabs) with a Blu_Ray drive, 2GB memory, NVidea graphics card, firewire, multiple monitor support etc.. Its a good looking laptop and not too heavy.

I like DVD-RAM for video editing and the RW drive is compatible with it.

Sony is generally good for video editing as it comes with a lot of suitable software pre-installed. Click-to_DVD is really simple, but it works well. if you are serious about video editing though you should consider a desktop with a powerful graphics card. Some Sony Models have Abobe Premier Elements included, which is a really nice little editor.

Thanks
Anything under £1000 is what I would like to pay.
With regards to the spec, weight is not important as it would be a desktop replacement and the only other things I would be using it for is the normal i.e. Internet, spreadsheets, music etc. I would prefer to have a HD display also as well as plenty of storage.

Cheers.

Mod comment:Posts should please be more on specs .
The OP can then look for laptops which fal within his budget which have these.

I agree with frankmsl that you need a decent dual core or Quad core wth 3 Gb RAM for editing
Bluray Drives on laptops arent that common. Sony makes some fairly powerful kit above your budget and a desktop would probably offer more VFM
You can get an i7 system with " cutting edge" specs for less than £700 if a desktop
A graphics card is more uful for playback inthet some GPUs can off load the work off the processor
Also it is perhaps easier to get a decent modestly priced desktop, then add a BD drive to it for £70
