AVCHD Advice

Hi, im new to the forums and before i get flamed, i have looked around for this information, but different sources contradict each other. i was hoping some one would be able to clear up a few questions about watching AVCHD files.

firstly the camera i intend to purchase is the new sony hdsr10e.
now once i have recorded the video in hd, what do i need to do to that video to watch it on my ps3(preferably using a standard 12cm dvd-r). ive read posts saying that it is a simple case of putting them in a folder called 'VIDEO' then the ps3 will read the files fine, but others say i need to run it through all sorts of software, that needs a high spec pc to do so.

i would appreciate it if anyone ould help me on this as it would make viewing the video a lot easier when i come to purchase the camcorder.

Regards

Sean

Now that is surely rubbish.. we never flame anybody and never contradict ourselves

Now that we are clear about that:

The PS3 will read your AVCHD files ( amongst others) in thier native form ( acting as a media streamer)

As such simply burning them to disc of any sort ( even CD) will suffice: you can of course copy them temporarily to PS3s HDD

However, You can create a Hi def Disc complete with menu with a DVD-R disc called "AVCHD Disc"
This can be read as if it is a "mini" BluRay disc on a PS3 and Bluray Players ( which are unlikely, like the PS3 to read "native AVCHD files on a data disc)
Playing "AVCHD Discs" on the PS3 is using it in its Bluray player mode, not just as a media steamer
Creating an AVCHD disc requires software like Nero Vision, Ulead Vs 11.5 or Ulead Movie Factory 6 plus ..which will create the structure rather than you just putting them in Folder called " VIDEO"
