New Camcorder, where to start

Hi all, need some advice really. Going on a family cruise later this year and am interested in getting a new camcorder for it. Having never owned one before, juts borrowed others I have no idea where to start. I have seen they now do them IN HD with HDD. Witht these how are you able to watch the footage in HD on a TV. I take it burning the footage to a dvd it wont play in HD.

So basically what should I be looking at, cheers all.
