replacement for Sony Handycam DCR TRV110E

It's time to upgrade the old faithfull and to get something a little smaller.

The old Sony Handycam DCR TRV110E has worked very wel in the 8 years I've had it but it's proving to be a little bulky.

I like the idea of one with a Harddrive but hear that the low end model have a poor picture quality.

I'm not really interested in Hi-Def and the camera is used purely as a point and shoot, mainly for holidays and the kids at home.

I don't need to plug bits (i.e. mic) into the camera, just need a DV out port.

I hear that the Canon MVX450 is quite good, can I assume that it would be much better than my 8 year. What is the video quality like in both good and low light.

Is the MVX450 still made, if not should I be looking for a current model?

I don't buy cameras very often (hence the 8 year old old model) and don't have a very big budget (well I do, the wife doesn't) so when I buy one I like to get the right one.

Any thoughts anyway?

Thanks in Advance

Re: replacement for Sony Handycam DCR TRV110E

MVX450 was a very good value for money model, but it's been discontinued for well over a year.

Panasonic GS320 or new GS330 are good DV models.

Re: replacement for Sony Handycam DCR TRV110E

Is it a problem if the camera has been discontinued, does that mean that repairs may be harder/more expensive?

Is the Canon MVX450 for £210 a good deal.

Unfortunately the Panasonics GS330 @ £360 is a little out of my budget.

Does anyone have experience of the Canon FS100, I read that a 16Gb SDHC card can record for 10hrs 25mins, can't image the quality of that is very good.

No. Anyway if it breaks it will probably be cheaper to buy a new one...

Yes.

This is a new model, I haven't seen it. Manufacturers always quote the recording time at the lowest possible quality setting, that you would never use At a decent bitrate it will be 3-4 hours.

Re: replacement for Sony Handycam DCR TRV110E

Sorry to bother you but have you still got your DCR-TRV110E handycam and did it still work ,only my one has stopped working and now i can not transfer anything to dvd.strangly enough these tapes will not play in any other sony camera, just this model (so they say, which i find hard to swollow).
Anyway if you do have it ,do you wish to sell or maybe hire it to me just to tranfer the tape of my children to dvd .Im having a job locating this model from anywhere at the moment ,well it is about eight years old i think.Anyway have you ever tried to play one of your tapes in another player before for any reason? If so did it work ,sony tell me this is the only model that this will happen with and that it is unique,I think its rubish and they sold me a dodgy camera which is out of alignment with
all other sony camera.
Again sorry to bother you just had to ask(please reply either way i wont be offended.

Re: replacement for Sony Handycam DCR TRV110E

Hey Muzza

Just reading your posting, I still have a DCR-TRV110E in perfect working order. If you still want to transfer tapes to DVD I can do that for you (Free of charge excluding postage and cost of DVD) .

I live in England and if you send me your tapes I will transfer them to DVD (single or double layer) and post the originals + DVD back to you.

Any costs incurred by me can be paid direct to paypal by you ( just cost of DVD and postage ).

My email addy is Tasuun16@msn.com if you are interested.

Thank you

Tasuun (Susan)
