Query about HV20/NTSC/Editing

Hey all

I'm in the market for an HD camcorder, and from what I've read the HV20 seems to be the one to get. It would be mainly for personal use (upcoming honeymoon, recording local bands etc), but occasionally I have cause to use multiple camera set-ups when recording some stage shows for a local amateur dramatics group. At the minute, there is no problem - all 3 camera's I use are PAL. However, I don't own any of the cameras and want to buy a couple of cheap second hand SD Canons with a decent HD for more regular use.

Predictably the matter of saving a few quid has reared its head and I went a'searchin' on eBay for bargains.

I came across these guys listing. They have a really high feedback rating, so that doesn't worry me so much. However...

I know it will be an NTSC camera that I get - will this cause problems editing in Final Cut when mixed with PAL footage from other cameras? Would I experience long render times or have associated problems? What are the main issues with using an NTSC camera here?

I'd appreciate your thoughts.

You can buy from Amazon.co.uk for 534.2 so might be worth you looking at that instead of ebay and also it is PAL the Amazon one!

Yeah, I've already seen it there.

I'm just on a tight budget, what with the wedding later this year. Really just wanted to know what the potential problems with using NTSC would be.

ah ok, no problem
I'm sort of in the same way as you as i got a tight budget to buy one and in America they are going for about half price as amazon, but i don't know what issues would be if i was to import!

Never , Never,Never mix PAL and NTSC footage it's got to be one or the other
You'll get skiped frames and horrible video, if your shooting with multi cams then keep them all the same format.

Believe me, Iam that Soldier!

I totally agree
you will not like the mix
It is hard enough to get the colours right using all PAL different brand camcorders!
