HDC-SD5 Fault (Apparent)

Have any users seen a strange white bar that's just appeared on the right hand side of the screen?
It affects the screen in record and record standby, when pressing the joy stick to bring up the option choices! does not appear in play back mode, and doe not appear in the recording

Looks completely normal to me, my SD1 has the same bar when it's in manual mode. I think it's part of the artwork...

Just checked and this is there in manual or Auto,
Is your bar visible in play back mode ,as it is only there in record on mine

No. It's only visible in manual mode when the joystick menu is on-screen. If yours is visible elsewhere, then it may presumably be a firmware glitch. Try doing a full reset (if yours has the little hole for reset that is!)
