HDV records Upper Field first and SD Lower Field first interlaced.

I want to convert my HDV footage to SDV in software, question is, does it make any difference if the Upper Fields are converted to Lower fields first, I.E is there any noticable difference in the converted footage ?

Im not sure but I have tried either before and found no difference. If there is it doenst show on my PC or on the DVDs and displays Ive used

I think it may matter if you then get "flicker" or in the case of trying to output as progressive rather than interlaced

I think the key to what you ask is to experiment with very short clips and run then through various display options on the PC , and on your home DVD player
