DV in question.

My Sony HC 35 has a DV in and out.

I have a firewire that I use to connect to the DV out to my DVD recorder.

How does the DV in work as I can't find the manuel, is it the same firewire cable and can I record into the camcorder with Youtube clips?

Re: DV in question.

DV in will work when you connect by firewire but you need the camcorder to be on Play ( or VCR) rather than Rec, camera

As it is DV in you can only record a DV AVI on the PC to tape, not an other video format. It is generally so you can record your edited video back to tape but you can actually put any video on it as long as it is a DV AVI

With Camcorders which have AV-in you could generally record any video as long as it was being output as video
With DV in you will generally see the video playing on the camcorders LCD
You can activate recording via software or on the camcorder it self ( should say how). with many you need the remote control to do it.
Try doing it with this

Re: DV in question.

Thanks Senu

I noticed it has DV/in/out plus s video out ans S Video in, is this the same as AV in/out?

Or is the S Video to do with the sound.

Dave
It is a form of analogue video in, separate from the AV (composite) video DV is digital.
S-video in is video only , but much better quality than composite ( which is the yellow phono type RCA lead, the red and white are audio)
With S-video you will still need audio-in ( ie the white and red phono plugs)
With firewire for DV sources it takes care of both audio and video

Re: DV in question.

Also you can use the svideo in to capture analogue video through the camcorder to record in the DV AVI format on the PC.

True , but that is also the case for composite AV-in
What is not possible is to use DV in from a PC to get You tube videos
If however, your graphics card has a TV out you can use the S-video or Av in to record anything playing on the PC to the camcorder but I shudder to think what sort of quality you would get.
If you really want your You tube videos and dont have TV out ect as described above , there are ways of downloading them to the PC , converting them to DV avi and then using DV in to get them to the camcorder from the PC. Still i wouldn't count on them being great quality

The HC35 doesn't have S-video input (or any AV) input.

Hmm..
Im sure you are right although the info about AV-in and s-video in as stated are factually accurate

Seeing as the issue of AV in was only mentioned for completeness in my reply to the OPs first post, the OP either has his model no wrong or is reading the spec sheet from another model

Re: DV in question.

I don't know, just thought it important to point out that the HC35 doesn't have AV input. (Unless possibly it is a NTSC model... the PAL HC35E doesn't have AV-in).
