8mm camcorder tapes to DVD

I have several 8mm analogue tapes that I intend putting onto DVD with some minimal editing using a DVD recorder that has the option of manual recording modes. For general use I have it set to get 3 hours on a DVD, instead of the 2 hours Standard Play (SP) setting.
If I leave it at this setting I can get two 8mm tapes on a DVD as they run for 1.5 hours each. My question is what recording setting do I use for
a) 8mm and
b) Digital 8
camcorder tapes to get optimum quality without having unnecessarily high settings?

i dont know why you are worried about using too many dvds i would only put 60mins at xp per disc imaterial if it is fom 8mm or digital 8,if you must use less discs 8mm could record sp[2 hours on disc]but digital 8 unless you want lower quality i would only ever use xp.

Re: 8mm camcorder tapes to DVD

Agree ,
3 hrs per DVD is stretching things a bit and for D8 ( which is essentially MiniDV on a Hi 8 tape) I would stick close to the 1 Hr limit
If you have a setop DVD recorder with HDD you can put 90 min of D8 on one DVD bearing in mind that the settops use a variable bit rate encoding whichever setting you use. They just adjust this by selecting different max an minimum bitrates
