Copying AVCHD files to HDD

I have had a Sony CX6 for a few months now, and have been watching the AVCHD files that I have made directly from the Memory Stick Duo on my PS3.

I have now run out of sticks, so need to copy them to my PC HDD. Is it just a case of copying everything in the root folder of the memory stick to the HDD? Will this preseve the HD format?

I don't really edit my footage much, so will probably just copy back from the HDD to a memory stick to watch on my PS3.

Yes it is that simple.
The HD format is intrinsic to the file and will not be changed unless you actively open them up in a software editor and output them as something else

Yes, but not as a permanent solution. The PS3 HDD is only 60Gb, which won't last long with the CX6 footage running at 8Gb per hour.

I need to archive it all down to my external HDD, which is much bigger.

Re: Copying AVCHD files to HDD

Certainly an External HDD is a must but for clips which are "current" there is no harm in leaving them on the PS3s HDD temporarily.
THIS may help them shrink a bit for that purpose
Still on the question of archiving, you may also wish to make data DVD archives in addidion to the EXT HDD
