Pinnacle Studio 10 plus - help on install/setup

Hi all

I'm a novice at video editing . I bought Pinnacle Studio 10 plus a while back but have been to reticent to get properly stuck in. However, with your help I am feeling brave enough at the moment for another another go. The version I have is 10.5. I did a complete install inc. bonus disc etc. My PC is Intel dual Core 2.4 GHz, 2 Gig ram with GeForce 7900GS graphics card, OS is XP Pro with SP2.

I have some questions I hope you can help my with:

1 - I have read that the software is very buggy so I also downloaded the 10.7patch but as yet I have never installed it because I read that it worked for some but not others. The question is should I install 10.7? (or even 10.8 but I read that if you are on XP better to stick at 10.7)?

2 - I already have Nero 6 is it better to burn DVD with this rather than built in Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder. If so can I simply remove Pinnacle Instant DVD Recorder as it appears as a separate software in Add/Remove Programs.

3 - I also have Pinnacle Media Server what is it and do I need it? Again it appears as a separate software in Add/Remove Programs.

4 - I also have the bonus disc installed again what is it and do I need it? Again it appears as a separate software in Add/Remove Programs.

5 - I also have Pinnacle Hollywood FX 6.0 installed again what is it and do I need it? Again it appears as a separate software in Add/Remove Programs.

6 - I also have ProDAD Heroglyph 2.5 installed again what is it and do I need it? Again it appears as a separate software in Add/Remove Programs.

7 - Also it installed links to Adorage Online. Again what is it and do I need it?

8 - I have Roxio My DVD LE which was bundled with my PC. I haven't activated it yet but if I pursue the Pinnacle route should I get rid of it.

9 - Lastly I also had Roxio DLA and Record Now - Audio, Copy, Data. If I should keep Nero as in question 2 above, can I get rid of those as well.

It will be a fine Gent or Lady that can help answer these questions

Hopefully

I'm sorry, I don't agree. I have often had more help from this forum at a level that I can understand rather than going to a specific forum. Most people on here are either helpful if they can be or they don't post.

10.7 is not a must have . I didn't find it made my system unstable but I have generally had a good time with Pinnacle Studio

Your call. They used to interfere in the past. Unless you have a problem i would leave it you never know when you might need.

Ive never used it but I leaving it is not harmful. It can be reinstalled if you want to but it isnt amandatory. the reason for a separate entry is so that you can update it separately without touchin the main Studio Program
It is media server software. AS you may know. Pinnacle makes "Show Centre". That is a Media streamer. If you have the media server software on your PC you can stream files to ShowCentre and play them off your display using the PC as the Hardware server with the media files on it HDD

It has quite a few add ons to enhance the Program. you can use the software without it but when you get a lot of greyed out options, its time to install it!

You need it . leave it alone. It is Separate because you can update it or enhance it by getting Pro packs add on ect which will install into its directory?folder

See below.
Look at THIS
This is a separate program to help you make animationsIt is a separate product by a company called prodad. They make movie effect which can be used as plug ins. The aim would be to purchase the software upgreade after using the "taster"

You dont need it. see Here

Maybe not ,
It is a DVD authoring software. You may wish ( like myself) to edit video in one program and them compile the edited filed as a DVD in another maybe on a different occasion.
This is the method Sony Vegas Movie Studio uses. In its case DVD Architect Studio is a separate software
Pinnacle Studio does have built in DVD authoring but you may not always want to Use it. However If you find tha Studio has all you need and space is tight, you can remove Roxio

I have more than one software title for different purposes as I find they have their individual strengths and weaknesses and no one is a perfect "Do it All" .
Unless there are known software conflicts, HDD space is tight or you cannot be bothered to learn more then one software. There is no need to get rid of any one for the other.
If you like what you have though, it can be argued that a "slim" system with fewer programs without duplicating functions is much likelier to run better

Re: Pinnacle Studio 10 plus - help on install/setup

When you do get round to it let me know how 11 is compared to 10.

I did some video capture last night which seemed to go ok, I guess the fun starts when I come to edit it
