Advice for someone new to camcorders?

Hi,

I'm looking at getting a camcorder for an upcoming holiday..nothing fancy needed, but would like one which can take still images as well.

I've never had a camcorder before, so am new to all of this. Any advice would be appreciated

Cheaper the better as after the holiday it probably won't get used.

I've been looking at these:

JVC GR-D728EK

Panasonic NVGS60B

Aiptek AHD200

I'm not expecting great things with them being so cheap, just need something that can do the job adequately.

Thanks in advance

Re: Advice for someone new to camcorders?

Interesting selection. The JVC and the Panasonic are both basic DV models; I'd expect performance to be similar. The JVC claims widescreen mode, so would be better if you want to shoot widescreen. Both of these are standard definition, using the well established miniDV format.

The Aiptek is a different animal. It is high def; uses MPEG4/H.264. But lacks some basic functions like an optical zoom. The clips I've seen were impressive for the price, but they were in good light. I'd expect it to struggle in low light.
