Sony DCR HC20E Not Charging/No Battery Info

Hi,

Got the camcorder out a few days ago as the missus needs it for a Uni project.

Checked the two batteries using the battery info button - no probs both fully charged.

Went to get it today to find a tape for her opened it to insert a tape - nada.
Looked at the on off it was in a weird position though bugger it must have been on and the big FP70 has gone flat.
So put the smaller FP50 in - nada, so thought ok maybe thats flat too.

Plugged in the mains adapter - it powers up I start checking the tape then after a while it starts switching itself from play to camera mode.

I'd had this once before where I mistakenly left the power brick turned off at the wall when transfering footage to the PC.

So checked the psu - seems ok as the camcorder powers on with only the adapter plugged in.

So I go to check the batteries but the battery info doesn't work with the camcorder turned off, either with the adapter plugged in or not.

Plus I noticed that the charging light is not lit.

I thought at first the battery was charging even tho its not lit as I left the FP70 in with the adapter plugged in and now it will turn on with only the FP70 in.
Also both the FP70 & FP50 show battery charge status when the camcorder is on in either camera or play mode - but the battery info button still won't work.

All other buttons on the camcorder seem fine including the touchscreen.

Any thoughts or ideas of whats wrong and how I can fix it?

Re: Sony DCR HC20E Not Charging/No Battery Info

An update in case anyone else comes onto the forum with the same or similar problem.

The problem has now rectified itself, what i did was connected it to the PC via firwewire with the battery connected and the mains adapter plugged in.
Then i just played around with the camcorder changing settings (night mode) turning it on and off and bingo next time I looked the charging light was on.

I think what happened was my large FP70 battery went flat (somehow the camcorder was still on) and caused a software lock.

By putting it onto firewire somehow this has cleared the lock and its all working hunky dorey again, which is a relief as the missus can do her uni assignment and i don't have to fork out for a new camcorder ..... yet
