Sony DCR-SR190 for £329 in Argos or HDR-SR5

Sorry to post a boring thread here. I know these questions have been asked before but i'm about to take the plunge and would like some experienced views.

I have just popped to Argos for something for my wife and noticed they have the Sony DCR-SR190 for 329.99. I wanted to buy into new technology by going HD so also looking at the SR5. I have a Sony Bravia KDL402000 tele so i'm HD ready and also have the PS3.

HD camera i spotted was the Sony HDR-SR5 but is this to 'bottom end' to be decent?

I was looking to spend between 500 - 600 on a new camcorder.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Sony DCR-SR190 for £329 in Argos or HDR-SR5

Update.

When on the web site I typed in the catalogue number associated with the offer and it returns the sr52 not the sr190.

I understand they must sell it for that price if it is advertised at that price?

Most definitely Not at all
but you can get a bit more for your money, I think. Did you consider Tape? ( Canon HV10/20 , Sony HC7) or Say Canons HG 10 or Sonys SR7? Hi def HDD?? (AVCHD)

If you have a PS3 please do your eyes and the Bravia a favour and definitely get a Hi def Model.
The PS3 will play AVCHD as well as m2t files off its HDD or even off a data DVD.
If you do have a PC with Vista or XP ( Media centre version) you can use that as a media server and stream Hi def files to the PS3 whic will act as a media streamer and play them of your HDTV in glorious Hi def.. otherwise just play them off the HDD or a data disc

SR5 is decent. The tape based models (HC5, HC7, Canon HV20) are better. As are the higher end AVCHD models like the SR7 and Canon HG10.

Do you think the Canon HG10 is £140 better than the SR5?

Chepest I can find the HG10 is 633 on Pixmania.

Thanks for your help.

the SR7 is £666 in Argos. Slightly above your price range, but the cheapest I've seen it anywhere.

Re: Sony DCR-SR190 for £329 in Argos or HDR-SR5

I havent used the SR5 but I have used the HG 10 and think it is perhaps a cut above the SR5.

But is it worth £140 more.?? I honestly couldn't say as Im unable to objectively say where the extra money goes.

I guess in matters of one off purchases I tend to rationalise just pay the difference and stay happy .
YMMV

I agree, it is hard to put a price on the difference in quality. The differences in quality are not large.

Taken the plunge guys!

Gone for the Canon HG10 and got it for £549 on empiredirect.

I'll post a review once i've had chance to test and play with the cam.

Thanks for all your help.
