jvc camcorder downloading to pc- please help

I bought a JVC GZ-MG26 20GB HARD DISK CAMCORDER off ebay last march. (big mistake - the ebay shop has since disappeared) I have been unable to download onto my pc.
To try and sort this out I have :-

1. Purchased additional software from jcv for Vista.- This results in USB device not recognised.
2. Talked to JCV on there helpline on numerous occasions - they don't have an answer.
3. I have tried to download from my camcorder to three separate pc's (including xp) - they all come up with "USB device not recognised".
4. Contacted Cyberlink in the US. They say it is a problem with drivers.

I have tried very hard to get this working and have lost numerous holiday/other videos- Can anyone help?!

I dont know a specific answer but surely one stop gap way is to download your videos to a machine with XP with to an external HDD so you at least have access to your footage while JVC, Cyberlink and Microsoft come up with a solution..If there is one

Sorry to hear that. If it isnt a cable problem, isnt it possible the camcorders USB output is at fault?
Ive used a JVC Everio and downloaded to my Win Xp laptop without any drivers at all.
USB device not recognised is a message Ive also got from External USB HDDs which are faulty

Thanks again Senu - u could be right - sounds expensive to fix. Re external USB HDDs - to have it not work on 3 computers is too much of a coincidence.
Appreciate your help!
