Need Help Transferring VHS to Camcorder

Ok, here's my problem. I have some old VHS tapes I would like to save onto my computer, but I've run into some trouble. I have a Samsung SCD107 Mini DV Camcorder, which I'm attempting to use to capture the footage from the VHS tape onto the camcorder. The only thing is that it won't capture any footage. The instruction booklet lists these steps, which I've followed; but when I get to the 'switch the AV IN/OUT to IN' step, the camcorder screen turns black instead of showing me the picture on the tv screen. When I record, it just records the black and not the picture on the television. Do you think it's a faulty piece of equipment, or is there something I'm totally missing? Do I need to change a certain option on the TV, perhaps? I'm completely stumped. Any information would be extremely helpful.

Re: Need Help Transferring VHS to Camcorder

I think I found the problem..I need to plug the yellow and white into the output plug-ins, but what do I do since my tv doesn't have a video output?

i was surprised this cam had video input but this link seems to confirm it.so are you not playing the vhs tapes on a vhs player[so where does the tv come into it]you must connect the vhs player and cam with phono leads, play the vhs tape and follow your manual regarding recording onto the camcorder.its a simple job

Re: Need Help Transferring VHS to Camcorder

You wouldnt normally need a TV..Just connect up the VHS to the camcorder directly. However with your setup it is likely that the only AV output is on a scart socket at the back
If not you need a standalone VHS player
If you must use anything that has a scart it will mean using a scart adaptor with RCA /svideo out like THIS
Also be aware that some VHS players have 2 scart sockets.. Some are unidirectional.. so use one which allows output .The adaptors also have an in /out slider switch
While you can monitor what you are recording to the camcorder , its LCD screen is the best "proof" that any recording is actually going on
You've stated these are your recordings , however if you use a tape from say, blockbusters , macrovision will also make copying it difficult or simply impossible
