JVC GR-D20EK CCD FAILURE - Help with repair required.

I have a camcorder that is affected by the "Remove lens cap" issue as detailed in the JVC returns link. See below:-

http://www.jvc.co.uk/knowledge-list.php?id=4#0

However I have misplaced my receipt etc so could not return it to JVC. Is the CCD easy to replace and does anybody know if there is a documented repair anywhere on the web so I can have a crack at it myself. I used to do quite a lot of soldering etc so I'm hoping it wouldn't pose too much of a problem!

Any help would be appreciated.

Contact jvc now, explain to them that the camcorder was a gift and you do not have the receipt, It worked for me, jvc are very understanding, But you have to be quick, the recall ends on 31st Dec, If they are closed for xmas perhaps a recorded letter would keep your claim open, It's certainly worth a try. This is a well known and documented problem with a batch of CCD's used in many makes of camcorders and digital stills cameras. I know Canon are/were accepting camcorders for free repairs without requiring the receipt, so I would think JVC should do the same.

Good luck,
Mark.

I phoned JVC today (22jan08) on 020 8208 7654 and told them about my ccd problem and they authorised the repair. I've got my reciept but just say yours was a gift. They'll ask for the serial number.

Re: JVC GR-D20EK CCD FAILURE - Help with repair required.

Sorry for the late response. I'm glad to say that I rang JVC who told me to write a letter to their customer services department detailing my problem. They wrote back to me in about 5 days and authorised the repair. They picked it up free of charge last Tuesday and are delivering it back to me tomorrow (23rd Jan). Excellent service.

Thanks very much for the help from everyone.
