m2ts sweetspot

I have m2ts files from my sony HDR SR5e. I need to transcode them to some suitable format for my freecom media player 350 which resides under my TV and largely archives much of my stuff. The Freecom wont do m2ts files. But it will handle Xvids, DIVXs, mpeg2's (HD) and some mpeg4's (HD).

The media player will output 1080i and p.

I'm trying to locate the best sweet spot settings for transcoding to give the best picture quality and I've experimented quite a lot, and have some reasonable but not perfrect results. The best results are from uncompressed in an avi wrapper - but the files were massive (and I actually dont think the freecom will handle these due to processing requirements).

Any suggestion, plz folks?

My tv will handle up to 1080p 60. I believe the m2ts starting files are 1080i 60 with 8 bit colour depth.

I currently have tmpgenc express, but I'm expecting a free copy of vegas hopefully in january.

Thanks in advance

I also have a small problem with tmpgenc reading the m2ts files as 1088 instead of 1080 and I'm getting a green bar at the bottom of the screen

Re: m2ts sweetspot

If it plays MPEG2 then I suggest rendering out to HDV format (MPEG2, 25 Mbps). Not sure about tmpgenc express but in Vegas you will have a template for HDV 50i.

File sizes will be around 12 GB per hour.

Re: m2ts sweetspot

Thanks, Red. I can try - tmpgenc can do HDV (sure I've seen it somewhere). I might check out the trial of vegas until I get a full copy myself.

Re: m2ts sweetspot

you can just transfer your files to software to make DVD video, which you can play in any of your dvd player and without worrying about the output problem

Your post is spam and anyway, the OP wanted something to play on his media player.. not some advertised software to make DVD Video's
