Would you recommend Panasonic SDR-H20 HDD Camcorder?

Hi all

I'm considering Panasonic SDR-H20 HDD Camcorder as the new price is tempting! was £399 now £229.

Has anyone got one of these? very reasonable price for such a big name, that would be my first camcorder so I can't compare with others.

The only thing is my DVD HDD recorder has DV in but this camcorder has only USB out so I guess I would need to transfer it to PC then burn it to DVD then, if need to be, copy it back to DVD HDD.

Can I find any HDD camcorder that has DV out? but even if I can't find I would consider this camcorder based on price & name and do the leg work myself!

Time to ask for an expert opinion Would you recommend this camcorder?

Many Thanks

Re: Would you recommend Panasonic SDR-H20 HDD Camcorder?

I've not seen that model in action. Generally HDD cams with a single small sensor aren't quite as good as DV models, ones with a larger sensor or 3 CCDs are better (but cost more). The H250 is a good one.

I think there may be one JVC HDD model with DV out, they are rare.
You could however use the S-video output from the HDD cam into your DVD recorder.

Thanks for your help Mark, sorry if it is a stupid question but when you say I could use the s-video output from HDD cam into my DVD recorder, do you mean I can record into DVD recorder by the s-video or just to watch it?

Thanks

You could record by connecting the S-video output from the camcorder to your DVD recorder (assuming the DVD recorder has S-video input, most do). Or you could use ordinary composite video connections, though the quality won't be as good. With S-video I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference between that and DV input.

Thanks for the confirmation Mark, yes my DVD recorder does have s-video input in front actually next to DV input that sounds good to me if I can record from camcorder to DVD recorder without the need of DV or PC

Thanks again
