Panasonic HDC-SD5 PC connection problem? Can you help please?

I have the Panasonic HDC-SD5 camcorder and a Vista PC.

I am trying to USB link the camcorder to the PC. I have followed the instructions - installed HD writer software, cabled up to the PC, selected connect - then all that happens is that Vista recognises the connection as new hardware and searches for a driver. When it can't find one, it just shrugs its shoulders and says 'ah well'.

It is supposed to connect to the PC and come up as a spare drive in My Computer. It doesn't, and I cannot empty the SDHC card I have before I go away this weekend!

I am at a loss - can anyone help please?

Thank you.

You have set the switch on the back to PC mode? Should just be seen like any other external disk then. Mind you, I don't use and will never use Vista... If you plug in a usb memory stick, does Vista see that OK, it should be no different.

There is no PC switch as far as I can see I am afraid.

The PC recognises my USB sticks etc without problem.

??

My apologies, I see the SD5 doesn't have that additional setting on the on/off dial at the back, while the SD1 does. There must be some equivalent though...

When you plug in the USB cable, it comes up with PC CONNECT on the LCD. I then click this and the computer detects the connection (but won't install a driver) - I suspect this is the SD5 equivalent of the SD1 switch?
Thank you for you assistance so far.

Do you mean it comes up as a new device detected, but then can't find the driver? Try telling it to look in C:\windows\system32 is one suggestion here:

Re: Panasonic HDC-SD5 PC connection problem? Can you help please?

Thanks Alpine

This worked from me from the link you sent - it will enable me to clear the card for the weekend now!

When windows prompts you with the three options, click cancel.

Click on the start menu and right click on computer, and choose properties.

Go into the device manager. If there is an exclamation mark next to the hardware you have connected, right click and go to update the driver. Choose to update from a location on your computer...which is C:/Windows/System32. This should work. Reboot after successful installation.

PS

I had to install about 4 different drivers in this way - so if it keeps coming up asking for a driver, keep going to device manager and right clicking the exclamation marks!
