Canon MVX250i died and need a camcorder for Xmas..HELP!

Hi all

I am in a dilemma, my mvx250i died recently (what timing) and I need a camcorder for christmas! I have been told it will cost £180 to fix, so since it is over 3 years old, I may as well see whats out there.

However...

I don't have a big budget due to the time of year. I would like to find one that is widescreen and miniDV. I had thought about breaking the bank and buying an HD HDD one for future proofing, but I can't justify it at the minute, plus my current camcorder died transferring tapes and I need that function. So I would like ideas on one up to around £200, which...

uses MiniDV,
widescreen,
minimal/no motor noise pickup on recording,
can perform decently in low light,
top loader if possible, but since I don't use a tripod I guess that is isn't too important,
and obvioulsy takes good footage.

not alot to ask eh! any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

regards

In that budget the low light performance etc won't be great. I like the Canon MD101 or MD160, but it seems with all the low end Canon models some people report issues with motor noise (on the ones I've seen I don't find it too bad).

Panasonic GS230 is nice but not true widescreen.

JVC D760 has had some good reports on here.

Mark

Thanks for the reply. Do you think it is worth repairing the MVX250i @ £180 over buying one of these budgets camcorders? Even though I wanted something that worked for christmas I would rather have the better camera, which ever that is

I had just assumed that 3 years on my camcorder features would be in most budget models.

regards
