camcorder format

when filming or taking vidoes using a camcorder, then recording it on to a recordable disk, using a dvd recorder, what format doe's the camcorder need to use so that it can be played on all dvd players.

the problem is a freind of mine had taken a video ,then made a copy using her dvd recorder gave it to us, but will not work on our dvd player or several others, but it will work on her's............

I am waiting for the make and model or possible format she is using so i can post back with that information, when i get it shortly

Re: camcorder format

This is almost certainly nothing to do with the camcorder, but is an issue with the DVD recorder (combined with the quality of DVDs used, and the various players and their compatibility with recordable discs).

If the DVD recorder has DV input, then it's best to use a DV camcorder (for quality), but you can use any camcorder and connect to the DVD recorder via analogue inputs. None of this will make any difference to the compatibility of the discs.

Recordable DVDs are not 100% compatible with every player. Use a high quality DVD-R disc, or DVD+R disc with booktype set to DVD-ROM and you should get high compatibility, but still some older players may reject the discs.
