Newbie question on Ulead Visual Studio

Been playing around with this for the past week on and off now and have a question on the editing.

I've created a 'opening' credits sequence that consists on stills, music and text effect. I entered the stills on the overlay track.

I now want the video footage to start a minute or so into the timeline but I can't get it to move to the right. It just defaults to 00.01 and wont go right. I can drop the footage on the overlay track and place it where i wish but...

1: You have to resize the image when working from the overlay track to get full screen and this seems to degrade the quality?

2: I cant run 'effect' between video on the overlay track. This feature only seems to work on the master video track.

Also anyone point me in a direction of a half decent referance or tutorial?

Thanks.

Re: Newbie question on Ulead Visual Studio

Hi,

You are better off posting on the Ulead/Corel forums for Video Studio
http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/

That's where I found lots of information and tutorials at http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=25214

Quick answers are:

To push the video on the main track when you are using the overlay is to add Color Clip (look at library drop down) on the main track.

You can only add effects between clips on the main track.

Re: Newbie question on Ulead Visual Studio

Many Thanks for the links,
I also have
THIS

bookmarked but found when I used it a while ago, it seemed to be a sounding board for complaints
As such I don't always find user forums as useful as one would have hoped but they can definitely be a treasure trove of info
It is however the case that he can get the knowledge he seeks in more than one place
Brian is something of an expert and can ( when he does come on) guide the OP on a one on one basis

Re: Newbie question on Ulead Visual Studio

You do seem to be doing things the difficult way Splash, first I would ask why have you created your open credits etc in the overlay track ?? - putting them in the top video track will solve all of your problems in that you will not have to re-size the image, you will be able to put transitions between the credits and your video, and you will have no problem with 'spacing' in the top track.

Spaces in the top track are very easily acheived if you actually do want one - simply drag a colour block from the 'color' library down into the top track and set it's length to your requirement - you can use any colour but I guess most people use black by default. I always put a short black 'leader' before the opening credits anyrate by putting a black colour block around 3 second long in the top track first - looks more professional than having the titles suddenly appear when you start the DVD.

The 'overlay' track is really just for that purpose - to overlay something over your top track - try to keep everything (stills as well as videos) in the top track and many of your problems will disappear.
