Question Camera has died - what are my options?

Hi all,

I have a 6 yr old Sony DCR-PC120E unit and about 40 hours of DV tape that I was in the process of transferring to PC / DVD when it died.

Unfortunately I do not see anyone selling the 'DV' format camcorder anymore. Instead it's mini-DV, hard disk or DVD based technology. My next purchase will be an HiDef unit, but in the meantime I am stuck trying to save my old media.

So folks, what are my options? How long will my DV media stay in tact before any degradation?

Thanks in advance, Paul

I've still got thirty year old VHS tape that's still in more or less perfect condition, so I shouldn't worry.

Can you not find a second hand one to buy on eBay?

I've got 30 year old VHS tapes from good quality suppliers that have failed, due to the decay of the lubricant causing the tape layers to stick together...

I knew that one day I would find an advantage to having a dusty house...
