Thanks: Gave 23, Got 4 | Velbon DV6000
Hi all, this is my first post in Camcorder forum.
Having just bought my first camcorder, Canon HV20, I am now looking for a decent tripod.
I am interested in the Velbon DV6000, but can only find mention of the DV7000. My main reason for considering the DV6000 is weight.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I got the DV7000 from Jessops - its a great tripod, fluid head is super smooth.
I think having extra weight is actually beneficial - you dont want a gust of wind to blow your camera over (I also use the lightweight HV20). I have also got a cheapo Velbon tripod (CX 300) which I can carry around in a packpack / for longer journeys.

Yes, I have a DV7000 as well.
If you need to lug it around a lot, you may want a lighter model, but otherwise the weight does help with stability, and it's good value for the money.

As for an opinion, I am still awaiting delivery. I will hopefully get a look at it before my wife wraps it up and hides it under the christmas tree.

Im sure you will love it.
If you extend the tripod you can actually find a good centre of balance for using it as a steadicam. I demo'd this this afternoon and found it to be nearly as stable as my glidecam 2000 pro (although heavier and harder to use for long sessions!!!)
A also got a great shot of the moon at full telephoto from a pavement and it was steady as a rock
hope you enjoy it.

This being my first camcorder, I will now be on a learning curve.
