Re: which editing software???

£1-2000 is a fair bit of cash and can certainly get you a mac with 2 monitors and FCP with change to spare

It can also get you a PC based System with one of Avids software (AVid Xprews pro HD and Media composer) and your dual monitor setup each system capable of editing HD

I do think there is more out there than FCP on a Mac and AVID on a PC though

However it is just as easy to get editing HD for more modest sums or find yourself out of pocket with kit you wont use if you get poor advice.Even with £2000 You will spend more as time goes on

If you can wait, I would suggest you pay a visit
HERE in a few weeks time otherwise speak to companies like THIS before hand
They may be able to help you get the best combination of hardware and software for your money and give you some "training " and support

Re: which editing software???

I've just built the folloing spec PC that will be used for editing:

Asus P5KC mobo
Intel E8350 CPU
Artic Cooler Freezer Pro 7 cooler
MSI 8600GT O/C 256MB DDR3, PCI-E Graphics Card
2Gb Corsair TwinX RAM (might up it to 4Gb)
2x 500Gb SATA2 HDD's
Corsair modular 520w PSU
2x Samsung DVD writers
Antec P182SE case
Windows Vista Home Premium

all for about £720

This should make easy work of video editing and DVD creation. The graphics card has 2 DVI outputs for running my 2 Eizo TFT monitors. I just need to decide on the editing software to use (I might also duel boot to XP) as I have been using Adobe Premiere 6, but that is getting long in the tooth now.

Mark.

You werent planning on using relying on just Vista were you?

Definitely ancient !

Unless you are confident at this sort of thing it is best to let companies like DVC ( linked above) custom build for you or get one of thier preconfigured PCs.
One advantage is that they would know which kit works best with software and avoid ( or have a solution to) known comflicts which can spring up on the unwary
I have self built too now for over 10 years but it isnt or the fainthearted especially for crucial aplications like video editing

No but the OP did ask if you could get 2 screens together and I was just stating that you can.

I have already got a new copy of XP to instal, but was hoping (and praying ) that I wouldn't need to instal it. But I doubt I'll be that lucky

What do you mean - it was cutting edge when I bought the PC, back in 2002

My current/old PC was a preconfigured editing PC from Planet PC.

Yeh, back in 2002 even OHCI was new and not that reliable. That's why I got the Matrox RT2500 system. It cost me nearly £2000 back then

I know what you mean. I always cross my fingers and pray when I first power up a new build
