Re: Recommended Platform?

I expect opinions will be about as split as asking the general question "which is better, PC or Mac"?

I use a PC, and Sony Vegas software, and I'm very happy with that.

There are more editing packages available on PC than Mac, but I believe Mac has better in-built support (i.e. iMovie/iDVD better than Windows Movie Maker), and Final Cut Pro is considered an excellent pro editor on Mac.

Thats about it really. I use a PC too and in addition to Vegas, 1 or 3 more packages

With the PC you get a heck of a lot more variety in software ( Paid for, shareware, freeware ect) and ancillary programs to play with.
With the Mac , there is the buzz word "industry standard" and also the perhaps not unfounded assumption that as personal computers go, Macs are a lot more stable in OS and hardware terms. It may also be the case that the few programs for the Mac are said to be less buggy (Horses for courses I think..)

This question also gets asked by graphic design , photo editing aspirants.
It is a relevant one but there is no simple answer..I know those ( Im one of them) who have used both platforms (work/home) in the past and will tell you that all being well they are just tools

We run 10 or so PCs in our biz inc a Lap. For my own use, bearing in mind I could have and have used PC's for free. However, I much prefer to operate on the Mac platform (which I pay for)with the bug free software e.g. Apple™FCP,Adobe™PhotoShop, GraphicConverter, QuickTime Pro, Roxio™ Toast, Parallels (I run PC business software and Mac OS x on my MiniMac Intel™ at the same time,'Drag'n Drop) Apple™ Keynote, Pages and Fission audio editor. All crash free.
. My 20" iMac LCD slot loader at home also runs a second screen which is needed to operate editing in Final Cut Pro as it is intended. The second LCD is a common PC type through an Apple provided adaptor. Works fine...
Thanks

Re: Recommended Platform?

As we stated earlier .. it is horses for courses..
There are people who use high end PCs with AVID ect or even the latest Adobe suite.. and those who have both Macs and PCs using each for its own strengths
Oh BTW ..Macs do crash too albeit less frequently
