No audio when capturing video on PC

I'm transferring footage from a Hitachi DVD CAM to the PC using red/white/yellow composite/audio cables.

When its connected via the Hauppauge WinTV88x card, I am getting video playback and capture but not audio. I'm using Pinnacle Studio 9 and Windows Movie Maker.

My audio capture options are

Realtek HD Audio Rear Input - Front Green In
Realtek HD Audio Rear Input - Front Pink In
Realtek HD Audio Rear Input - Stereo Mix
Realtek HD Audio Rear Input - CD Volume
Realtek HD Audio Rear Input - Line In
Realtek HD Audio Rear Input - Microphone

However no matter which one I select, the captured video is silent....

Can anyone offer any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong, and please excuse the layman's jargon!

Re: No audio when capturing video on PC

When I do that, the PC recognises that there is a disc in the drive, but when I open or explore, its empty...

Edited to add....

Obviously its a mini dvd-r so when the PC recognises its in the drive, it open a window with options to write to it, but when I explore it, there is no content, which is obviously not the case as the footage can be viewed on the cam

Re: No audio when capturing video on PC

You'll have to follow the instructions for the camcorder, somewhere in it's menus there should be a finalise option.

Re: No audio when capturing video on PC

I can't find an option to finalise the disc anywhere.....

Whats puzzling me is that when I connect the cam to a TV tc via the red/white/yellow leads everything is okay, with sound present but as soon as I connect to the PC via the TV card the sound goes awol....

.. or ask the owner how.

The disc is meant to be a portable carrier of the footage so connecting the camcorder to a PC via composite video is really a Even if you could capture it with your TV card you would be going from Digital to analogue back to digital..then to encode to..... The mind boggles what state the final video will be in for quality

The other way could be to connect it to PC using USB

But for universal compatibility playback you will have to "finalise" the Disc
