hi,

im trying to find a cable that will connect my camcorder to my PC. Unfortuanatly my PC has only Video AV Connection and a TOSLINK connecter.

the camcorder on the other hand hasnt got a TOSLINK digital connector or a 3.5mm jack to make the digital connection.

it has however got the av connection. this brings me back to only being able to have the video connection, i really need the sound aswell so if any one has any ideas how to get round this problem maybe a usb to av audio connector, ur input would be greatly appretiated.

the camcorder has got a s video connector but i have found no s/pdif cable that can give me audio and video. and according to a local electrician i would still need someway of connecting sound to my pc even if i used the s/pdif connection.

Ok...it's an analogue (Hi8) cam, so using Firewire is out..

The camcorder has S-video out as you have said; then from the av jack you use the av cable which has both composite video (on one phono plug) and mono audio on the other.

Normally then the way to connect to your PC to capture video is to a video capture card/device or tv card of some sort. This solution captures as DV

thank you for your replies. i have since found a much cheaper option where i can get sound and video onto my computer from the camcorder.

this happens to have svideo connections aswell as the AV connections.

still its 60 quid in most e/retailers so hopefully ill get it.
