Premiere. AE and Movie maker

Does anyone have experience of making video with the brand new release of Windows Movie Maker? It causes premiere to crash and AE 5.5 to freeze up. The older version did not do this. Anyone suggest a reason for this as I use Movie Maker for quick, simple and rough editing projects before taking the file into premiere for advanced editing. I cant seem to do this at the moment. Movie Maker gives a full DV-AVI file output that plays fine in Media Player and any other movie player, just Premiere and AE do not like these avi files for some reason. Windows bug in the new version of Movie Maker?
