VOB files to DVD

Just downloaded a fan-edit of Spidey 3 from Fanedit.com, great website for peeps who want to re-cut and 'improve' on movies (I believe your covered as long as you own the original!).

Film ends up as 5 VOB files which I can't burn to DVD (can I?) so I converted each file to AVI using Visual Hub which worked fine. However, when I use the 'stitch together' function Visual Hub appears to complete the task but the latter half of the film is missing - it stops half way through one of the AVI's.

Any ideas? I still have the original VOBs and the AVI conversions seem to be fine. Should I be converting to something else for DVD use?

I should point out that I'm on a Mac platform.

Thanks in advance.

* I should add that I do have Final Cut on this 'puter but never found time to learn the workings. If anyone knows the basics for a simple stitch job then please...?

Re: VOB files to DVD

If you have all the files which make up the DVD (so not just the .VOB, you need others like the .IFO file) in a VIDEO_TS directory then you can burn this to DVD. If you just have the .VOB files then you need to reauthor (I've not used Visual Hub so can't help there).

Thanks for the advice!

Yes I've got the other files (.IFO and .BUP). Do you not need to merge the VOB's somehow before transferring to DVD or do they just appear as 'chapters' which can be played continuously?

I can drag/drop the VOB's into Toast but just want to make sure I don't need to be doing anything else with the other files.(For instance the 'menu' is a VOB but appears as 'My Playlist - 1 song' when dropped into Toast...)

Re: VOB files to DVD

I've not used Toast... but what you have is a DVD in a folder. With a DVD burning programme you should be able to tell it to burn from a folder, and that's it. No need to combine anything. The .IFO file is the one which tells the DVD player where everything is. You need to point the burning programme to burn from a folder, and it will use all the files (not just the .VOB files).
