Thanks: Gave 9, Got 0 | Video Editor for Sanyo Xacti HD 700 files ;Help!
Hello All, i need a good if possible free video editor.
I have a Sanyo Xacti HD700 High Def 7.1MP Widescreen Digital Camcorder it uses Mpeg 4.
Can anyone recommend a free one, and a good value as easy to use as possible, like a,b,c not the brightest person on the planet, just want to learn and get as good as possible results.
If there is a good easy to use small cost one, will take a look.
Thanks, GEP

I suggest you ask what the users of your camcorder use, then decide if you can afford it or not. Its files are not exactly "standard"
Free isn't always equal to "easy to use"
Ill amend your title to attract more comments from them

I have the Sanyo HD2, I presume the format is the same, and I can edit with Ulead VS 11 and Pinnacle 11.
As Senu mentioned the Sanyo codec is not a standard codec (not stricktly MPEG4)
Also, if the HD700 is the same as the HD2 it will capture in 30fps so you will have to edit and render in the NTSC format.
You can also use MP42AVI (a free utilty, do a search) which will allow you to use the files in almost any Video Editing program

I only got Photoplus 6, and a screenshot program.
Cannot import into it directly anyway, but, Picasso etc can.
Don't know why the sanyo is not recognised????
Any ideas??
Thanks, GEP

The Xacti HD2 comes with Ulead Movie Factory 5, this lets you convert the files for DVD use.
You could also try the free FFDshow codec pack
Also have you got Quicktime installed ? Quicktime will recognize the files

Hello Glesgaguyav, have got quicktime 7.2 + iTunes 7.3, Adobe Photoshop Album SE, Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0, Xacti Screen Capture.
I purchased it from QVC the shopping channel, this is all i have on the DVD that accompanied the camcorder, and a DVD manual.
I have not got Ulead Movie Factory 5.
I have coming, CyberLink PowerDirector 6 Deluxe, which is supposed to be one of the best on the market, beating Ulead for features etc. see here, top ten video editing software. http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
I have already downloaded MP42AVI, 2 programs, how to use them is another problem i will have to overcome, not to clever, like easy programs to use.
I presume that you and others here can help, if i ask.
Thanks for your help, and all others here, much obliged.
I will keep this site, as i only just came across it by chance, seems a good forum, loads on it.
Thanks again, Glesgaguyav and all for your help and time, Gep

If you have the MP4CAM2AVI utility then you should't have any problems, it's very easy to use, just transfer the clips to a folder on your HD, search and open the folder in MP4CAM2AVI, it will list all the files in the folder, you can then just convert single clips or join all clips into one AVI file.
Note that the program does not change anything it just "repackages" the files into a recognizeable AVI.
Having given you this information I presume that the Xacti HD700 is a newer model up from the HD2 so therefore is using a similar format.

Thanks, GEP | Probably the AAC sound track. As glesgaguyav says, just run the clips through MP4Cam2AVI, and it will change the track to MP3 and leave you with AVIs that all respectable packages can edit. It's very fast since there is no transcoding of the video stream.

Hello alpine101, glesgaguyav, have downloaded MP4Cam2AVI, there was two programs together to download, so have got them both, somewhere.
So all i have to do is, get my Video onto my computer, then open MP4Cam2AVI. If i want to copy the AVI file produced in MP4CamAVI onto a DVD, presume i can then import it into CyberLink PowerDirector 6 Deluxe and is it Rendering??? I got this message from Sanyo, because i am finding it difficult to Import direct to program, even with Cyberlink. Message: The issue you describe is likely to be PC related and we recommend that
you consult your computer supplier/helpline regarding setting the PC
management menu to accept a new device.
Where do i find this management menu, and what do i do to change it so as for it to fully recognise my camcorder etc????
I have windows XP sp2
Thanks very much, GEP

I don't understand the message: you don't need to 'import direct to program'. All you need to do is connect your camera to your PC via USB, when after a short time it should become visible as another drive letter, then you can use explorer to do a file copy to the PC.
