Im in the States right now.... should i buy a Hi Def HD camcorder?

Hi All

I am in the US right now and prices and exchange rates are great.

Im looking to buy a hi def hard disk camcorder and bring it back to use in the UK.... Should i buy????

Will there be any picture problems etc does the pal and ntsc effect the HD / digital file nature of the pictures?

If not and i should buy... what recomendations. Seems like its cannon or Sony... i tend to lean towards sony. Thoughts welcome?

Andy

HDR-SR7 (or 8) or Canon HG10. Reviewers go with the Canon HG10. If you are using a PS3, an HTPC or media player you should not notice any issues in playing the NTSC HD cam footage on an HDTV.

With HD, the terms NTSC and PAL technically don't apply... but the only difference is that in the "NTSC" parts of the world it is 30 frames/second (60i), whilst here it is 25 frames/sec (50i). As rhubarbe said that's not a problem, any HDTV will handle it.

If you might want to downconvert to SD to share with others (who don't have the kit to play a high def DVD/file) then the PAL/NTSC comes into play, though most PAL DVD players/TVs play NTSC, or you can convert in software.

Im back... and empty handed...

In the end i chickend out. not because of the ntsc or power issues... but in the end, the prices didnt work out that much cheaper.. also taking into acount warrenty issues, i thought it was better to buy here...

So, i will take a look at the forums and get the low down on the right model for me!

Thanks again

Ive got US Sony HC1 that and my Sony Laptop comes with a 100-240v adaptor.

So all you need to do is change the two pin plug lead to a 3 pin uk lead i.e the one from your dvd player or radio and plug it into the adaptor.

Yes, I have a US HV10 and ditto. Figure of eight lead is all you need to replace.
