JVC 'HDD ERROR' - Help please!

My JVC GZ-MG20EK hard disk camcorder is displaying the message 'HDD error'.

A further message indicates that it needs to be formatted and when connected to the PC no files can be read and it seems empty.

I have actually tried to format it but this also fails.

Needless to say I haven't backed up for about 3 months and really could do with salvaging the content if possible though this seems very unlikely. There is no incident that I can recall (dropping it etc..) that could have caused damage to the HD.

I realise that their are specialists out there who could probably do something to salvage some data but it doesn't seem justifiable from a cost point of view based on what I have found.

The bottom line is that I need to get the camcorder operational again and any data salvaged will be a bonus.

Any suggestions ? I would hate to think it is a write off?

Apart from using a specialist, there are various hard drive recovery software you could try (I've not used any myself so can't recommend). But probably you are out of luck.
