Replacement MiniDV canera

Hi, My existing JVC miniDv video camera has bust and will need repairing or replacing.

Given the price these things go for these days I am contemplating getting a new one instead of paying a probable quite high repair bill.

The best thing about my current camera is that the fire wire port is two way. So I can upload my videos to the PC for editing but importantly I can download the edited video back to the camera recording to tape for archiving.

So can anyone recommend a cheap miniDV camera that has a fully enabled fire-wire port? That is as well as having DV OUT it has DV capability also.

Thanks,

Dave

Not the cheapest but an excellent one and good value is the HC96 here

Even has AV input as well as DV input.

Or... a cheaper (and still decent) model with DV-in is the Canon MD160.

Re: Replacement MiniDV canera

D*am and Blast:

My Canon MVX450 bust last week and I've just received the estimate @ £150...
Shall I get a new camera or get it repaired?

If I get a new camera I will upgrade to HighDef, and it will have to be the Canon HV20, as I need access to some MiniDV tapes I've got some precious footage of that I haven't even seen yet (from just before the MVX died).

D & B it....

Re: Replacement MiniDV canera

Sorry to hear that....
if you can swing it I'd "take advantage" of the MVX breaking to upgrade to the HV20... if not it's probably worth getting the MVX repaired (it is better than anything you'd get for £150 new).
