digital on to dvd disk

so far i have little experience on this i'm using pinnacle 7 and can only get about twenty odd minutes of footage on one dvd disk what am i doing wrong. can i adjust the resolution/ quality to allow more footage per disk.

noticed a black dot on envelope at left of post what does this mean.

Sorry, can't remember what the black dot means, someone did tell me once, don't worry about it though.

Thought I'd ask the obvious question, how much disk space do you have free on your HD?
Pinnacle has to write a temp file before writing to DVD, and if there's not enough space free on your HD then it can't write a full DVD.

How is your cam connected to the PC? Analogue or DV (digital)?
On a PC the maximum length of footage that can be captured in analogue is approx 18 minutes( or 8 min in DV). This is due to the maximum file size of 2Gb. Some programmes can capture larger files, but this is done by the capture software splitting the capture but linking them together within the programme. IIRC this can only be done with digital capture.
The easy way around this is to capture multiple 18 min. sections of footage with a slight overlap and then edit together in Pinnacle 7.

even when editing several clips the time bar on the screen is at maximum with about 26 minutes of clips, can i adjust resolution or quality to allow more footage.

17.5 is max at a time however am only geting say30mins on to a dvd disk that is the problemas i am able to do multiple17.5 clips to the 40gb hard driveavailable but only 4.7gb on a dvd disk, have quality at digital max should i change this to say mpeg or something.

DVD-R has a capacity of 4.7Gb
The format for DVD files is MPEG2
Uncompressed DV footage is 4 minutes per Gb

DV file to a 4.7Gb DVD-R = just under 18 minutes

It sounds to me that you are copying uncompressed DV files to a DVD.
Compress the file into MPEG2 before writing to disk. This will give you full DVD quality (subject to origional quality of footage) and a lot longer final film on each disk.

Thanks Mark sounds like thats what i needed to know, havent had a chance to try it yet but confident that it will work.

still got the same problem all u r numbers r spot on mark however dont seem to be getting the mpeg2 compression thing to work still getting about 20 mins for 4.7gb please help.

got it at last the mpeg2 thingy only happens when creating the movie after edditing not when capturing as i was expecting , anyways thanks again.

It may be worth looking at aftermarket MPEG2 encoders

The one in ULead DVD Movie Factory is bad

TMPGEnc is quite good!
