Which would give the best results?

I use the MacBook with iMovie HD 06. Which would give the best quality 'DVD' out of the Canon HV20, Panasonic GS500 and the Sony HDR-HC7. Ie. does recording in HD and then making a normal DVD give better results than the best SD cameras?

Re: Which would give the best results?

No... recording in HD doesn't in itself make for a better SD DVD. But as the quality of the HV20 and HC7 are very good, they will make for excellent SD DVDs.

The GS500 is an excellent SD camcorder. For SD DVDs only, it may be slightly better (especially the colour accuracy, as it has 3 CCDs). But it will be hard to see the difference. And if you ever want to reissue the footage later in HD, the HDV models have the advantage.

In short - the HDV models will be similar, but no better, than the GS500 in making a SD DVD.

Re: Which would give the best results?

Thanks for the reply Mark but there are many posts regarding issues with iMovie/Mac and the GS500. Are there any true widescreen cameras that would definitely pair.

Re: Which would give the best results?

I don't know as I'm not a Mac user.. but I'm very surprised that there would be problems with the GS500 (or the HV20/HC7). GS500 is a DV camcorder, DV is standard. HV20 and HC7 are HDV, that is also standard. I see no reason why a Mac should have problems with any of these.
