Question Required: Recommendations of Editing Software

I am new to the world of editing and require some assistance in choosing a editing software package. I do not want to spend too much (nothing if possible (freeware would be good although i am perhaps being a bit optimistic)), but it needs to be easy to use (being a novice and all).

Ihave a Panasonic NV-GS15 and have just ordered a firewire card for my laptop along with a cable to link the camera to the computer. Is there anything else I should require for converting the tapes onto DVD.

Appreciate any assistance anyone can give

Re: Required: Recommendations of Editing Software

If you have windows XP, then you should already have windows movie maker. Well it came with my copy anyway

Failing that try Sony Vegas/ Adobe Premiere pro (expensive and good), or much cheaper try Adobe Premiere Elements. For about £25 you get a really usable cut down version of premiere pro.

If you have a Mac, ilife comes bundled with a rather intuitive video editor called iMovie.

I'm sure there are many other packages out there too

Hope this helps.

Re: Required: Recommendations of Editing Software

Do a search here, NLE, Software and then if you find it unhelpful, specific queries
What will happen with your thread if non specific is simply get us all praising our favourites
I have several of currently available and popular ones but realise not every body will get on with all of them

Here are a few threads to get you going

Software for a novice video editor?
Definitive list of editing software...

Video editing software

Free software is available within Windows anyway, as Windows Movie Maker.
Combined with Nero most folk can do some editing and DVD authoring without spending more
Free however doesn't always mean easy to use, although WMM is easy to use indeed, even if it is limiting as you advance. It does have a following though
HERE

As for what you need. a second Large Hard drive for video only (if possible) , would be handy in addition to the firewire card and software and more RAM if you have less than 1Gb
Note too that software have different hardware specifications and the minimum may find you struggling
